Istrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation, IASTM, is utilized before the application of massage lotion to address holding patterns in fascia often due to scars, injuries and poor posture patterns. A steel tool is used to perform the techniques. Depending on what is going on in the tissue, the tool can deliver benefits gently or at a greater depth. As always patient and therapist keep communication on pain level and comfort.
Myosfascial cupping creates a suction that allows for a decompression under the skin. It improves tissue mobility, enhances movement and modulates pain. This decompression is essential in breaking up the body's holding patterns due to poor posture or an injury. The silicone cups are strategically placed on the body as the practitioner cues movement of the cup or joint movements to target and further enhance the benefits. Temporary bruiselike discoloration of skin may occur and could last for several days. This often reveals areas of congestion and stagnation in the tissue of concern.
Myofascial Cupping is an ancient therapy, first documented over 5,000 years ago, still today we see Olympic and professional athletes enjoying it's benefits!
Kinesiology taping (KT) allows the patient to take the benefits of bodywork home and even extend it! KT can improve movement and performance, manage pain, reduce swelling and assist in posture retraining. In addition, KT can be essential for scar mobility and symptoms associated with nerve entrapment. Much like cupping, KT's decompressive effects create the therapeutic benefit.
In a massage session, the special coiling tape is strategically applied directly to the skin. It can stay adhered up to 5 days delivering therapeutic effects. Applying KT at the end of a massage session for various reasons will allow the benefits to last for several days. Often the patient will notice immediately more freedom in movement and reduced pain. It's important to note that the tape is best to be removed after several days as it naturally loses adhesion. If removed sooner, using oil to breakdown the adhesive and pulling at a 30-40 degree angle is recommended.
Pillows and bolsters help create the most safe and comfortable positions for mom and baby. Mommas love my belly bolster that allows them to lay face down!! Special considerations are made concerning depth of work through understanding the roles hormones play during each trimester. High-risk pregnancies must get a Dr. referral prior to receiving massage.
